Updated: Weekend Earring Giveaway

May 2, 2011 Update: Winners!

Yep, big surprise.  I couldn’t pick just one winner.  So I kept drawing ’til they’re all gone, and now I have to go back to LB Designs and buy some for myself.  Shoot!

Congratulations to the following winners, selected randomly:

  1. Monica: “#1 is calling to me. Gold AND pink? Check. Check.”
  2. Holly in Japan : “‘Well played, dog. Well played.’ soooo funny! Animals are smarter than we give them credit for, I think. He knows how to keep his bread buttered. ‘I do ship internationally. Because I can do whatever I want. Except teach a kid to behave well enough to keep from being suspended. Control what you can, right?’ oh Beth, you are seriously cracking me up. Story of my life! control what you can. Two more fave quotes!  Oh yes, I nearly forgot the earrings. Love them all – would wear the red ones the most, but I’m always up for a new wardrobe for any pair of earrings. (^_^)v”
  3. Heidi:  “Beth, You are a riot…R-I-O-T! You should know that Kim, your sis-in-law is one of your biggest fans…she got me hooked on you! That, and your baby shower throwing skills kind of sealed the deal for me. Darn pork n beans! ;) By the way…I’m not normally a dangly earring kind of gal, but I’m willing to try something new if I win. I’ll go with pair #2!! :)

Thanks, ladies!  And congrats on your wins!  Please email your address to fivekidsisalotofkids@gmail.com so I can get these shipped to ya.

(To read more about why I can’t give away my dog, feel free to read the whole post below.)

…………

Welcoming the Month of May this weekend by giving away a pair of these fabulous LB Designs earrings.

I have an almost overwhelming need to give stuff away.

It happens with everything.  Old stuff.  New stuff.  Junky stuff.  Cool, hip stuff like earrings.

My kids’ stuff.  My dog.

My kids.

Just kidding about the kids.

Mostly just kidding about the dog.

As a matter of fact, I was going to give the dog away once.  For reasons he and I have discussed at length.  However, then he pulled one over on me and bonded like Gorilla Glue to my eldest son… my kid with the extra special needs.  Bonded like this:

And like this:

To which I say, “Well played, dog.  Well played.”

Because now, you mess with my dog, you mess with my kid’s happiness.

And we all know, you mess with my kid’s happiness, I punch you in the teeth.

I can mess with my kids’ happiness.  You?  Not so much.

No one who hates my yappy, runaway, toe-licking, wants-up, diaper-eating, bed-peeing dog say anything.  I’m not giving him away.

So you can breathe easy that there will be no scandalous blog dog-giveaway in our future.

You’re welcome.

But I like giving other stuff away. Like snazzy new earrings to celebrate spring.

However, I have a conundrum specific to blog-based giving.

The problem with giveaways is that you’ve told me you don’t read this blog for the stuff.  You read it for the stories.

Like the story I’m gonna have to tell sometime next week about how important it is to try new things.  New things like… oh, say… having a kid who got herself suspended from school.  How do I know I won’t like it unless I try it?  I’ll let you know after I’ve sampled a taste.

The way I see it, you could have giveaways!  Instead, you’re just getting reading material and a sense of relief that this isn’t your life.

Good thing for you I think outside the box.  ‘Cause even though you’re easy, I’m gonna give you the stories AND the stuff.  Oh, yes, I am.  Because I’m a both/and kind of girl.

And, per your request, I’m not going to make you enter by liking me on Facebook.  (Not just because my blog’s not on Facebook.)

And I’m not going to make you, well, do whatever it is you do on Twitter.  Tweet?  Twit?  (And not just because I can’t say anything in 140 characters or less.  I was thinking about it in the bathroom today… “I have toilet paper inferiority complex.  When did my friends stop buying the scratchy, see-through T.P. and move on to the fabric-weight stuff I wouldn’t be ashamed to sleep on?” See?  I just can’t do it.)

And I’m not going to make you sell me like a half-priced, day-old donut to all of your friends.  (Even though I want you to sell me like a half-priced, day-old donut.  I do, I do.)

But, if you want to enter my Super Cool You Should Totally Enter It Weekend Earring Giveaway, I am going to make you comment.  ‘Cause that’s how I’m choosing a winner.  From the comments.

And here’s why.  The more I hear from you, the more I just like the heck out of you.  And the way I figure it, everyone needs the heck liked out of them from time to time.

I’m a little blog.  You’ve got a good shot.  Good luck!

Beth

To Enter:

Leave a comment by 3:00pm (Pacific Time) on Monday, May 1st (with thanks to reader Trighap for the extended deadline, which was orginally Sunday). Include in your comment the number 1, 2, or 3 that corresponds with the pair of earrings you like best.  The winner will receive his or her favorite pair. One entry per person, please. (Although you’re welcome to comment and reply as much as you like!)

Winner selected randomly and posted on Monday.

  1. On the left, gold and pink (dangles 2 1/2 inches)
  2. In the middle, silver and light blue (dangles 3 inches)
  3. On the right, red and silver (dangles 2 inches)

Note:  This giveaway is sponsored by me.  LB Designs, creative mastermind, doesn’t know I’m doing this, but I like the heck out of her, and I know you will, too.

And another note:  I do ship internationally.  Because I can do whatever I want.  Except teach a kid to behave well enough to keep from being suspended.  Control what you can, right?  International shipping it is!

ABOUT BETH WOOLSEY I'm a writer. And a mess. And mouthy, brave, and strong. I believe we all belong to each other. I believe in the long way 'round. And I believe, always, in grace in the grime and wonder in the wild of a life lived off course from what was, once, a perfectly good plan.

  1. […] Only a little time left to participate in the Earring Giveaway!  You have until 3:00pm Pacific Time today.  Good luck! Share: Digg this post Share on Facebook […]

  2. Fun! I like Number 3!
#%*$ dog!!! I hate when they wheedle their way in :).

    1. You and that d@&* dog. 😀

  3. Number 2, please! TOTALLY crossing my fingers…. I love LB Designs. LOVE them!

And Chip sucking up to Ian? That dog must be a LOT smarter than we all gave him credit for. (I have to admit, I’m a little shocked that he’s still with us. That Houdini dog’s days were numbered, and he’s seemed to find extra lives laying around. Unreal.) Well played, dog. 🙂

  4. number 2 number 2 number 2-2-2
    number 2 number 2 number 2-2-2
extra points to you if you can hear the tune in my head

    1. In my head this song has the same tune as the ‘Piet Piraat’ theme song (Belgian/Dutch kids’ series)

      Am I close? 😉

      1. Ha! Carina, that was hilarious!

Gwen, you stumped me. I’ve got nothin’. Which is a real bummer, ’cause I can always use extra points.

        1. thanks Beth, I thought so 2! 🙂

  5. So, I’m aware that I’m probably commenting too late to get in on the giveaway unless you draw our names out a hat or something (in which case I’d love #1, because nobody I know who is over the age of 18 wears more pink than I do and I’m not sure if I should be concerned about that or just say “whatever, pink looks good on me.”). And is it sad that I like your houdini-esque dog better than ours (that is to say, Victoria’s)? And now the youngest is begging for her OWN puppy…..just what we need.
I’ve mostly commented through facebook before, but I’m happy to do so here if you prefer that. Your blog is royally fabulous! (Take note of the names I bestowed upon my daughters.)

    1. I DID draw names out of a hat.

Well, out of a coffee mug, ’cause, let’s be honest, I always have one of those handy.

And I’m very, very excited to welcome you to the Chip Fan Club. You’re the 8th official member. Yep. Eight people in this world who like my dog. Me, my kids, Greg’s cousin Callie Jo who dresses him up in Mardi Gras beads and coos at him (and I love her for every second), and you.

And thanks for the royally kind words.

  6. I pick number 2!
    Cool contest!

    1. Thanks, Beth!

      Cool name. 😉

  8. I love giveaways that I don’t have to go to Facebook and Twitter and come back to report. Well played, Beth!
I love #3, and I currently don’t have any red earrings, except for some very 4th of July kind of earrings.

    1. Two thumbs up, Cathie! This non-Facebook, non-Twitter event is in your honor.

  9. “Well played, dog. Well played.”
soooo funny! Animals are smarter than we give them credit for, I think. He knows how to keep his bread buttered.

“I do ship internationally. Because I can do whatever I want. Except teach a kid to behave well enough to keep from being suspended. Control what you can, right? ”
oh Beth, you are seriously cracking me up. Story of my life! control what you can. Two more fave quotes!

Oh yes, I nearly forgot the earrings. Love them all – would wear the red ones the most, but I’m always up for a new wardrobe for any pair of earrings. (^_^)v

    1. Congratulations, Holly!

They’re comin’ at ya soon. And you got my favorite pair.

  10. Red is my number 1 color, but I like things that dangle 2! I’ve got 3 kids, who really like our cat, but I think the youngest 1 would love to have 3 dogs… Which is never going 2 happen, because we just don’t want to distress our 1 cat (and we don’t like walking a dog, because we’re lazy, which rhymes with 3, ha!).
That was fun to do, hope you like it 2 😉 Or wasn’t this what you meant by ‘include in your comment the number 1, 2 or 3′? 😉 It just occurred to me that I could’ve done this completely in rhyme too, but now I’m too lazy (which rhymes with…) for a do-over.

ps: I always forget to wear earrings, so this wasn’t actually a serious entrance for your lovely contest, I bet you can make some other girls very happy with ’em! Way 2 go Beth! (it’s easier to work in the number 2 into a text than the other 2 for sure 😉 )
pps: sometimes 3 times (also known as thrice, ha! 🙂 ) IS a charm…

    1. By the numbers, folks. Carina’s doing it by the numbers.

      🙂

      Nice.

  11. I won’t be entering your contest, despite the fact that a) I do wear an earring and b) I could win them for my wife. Regarding a): not my style–I wear a single small gold or silver hoop. Regarding b): I’m not great at figuring out what jewelry Melissa will like. (She has a similar problem with me about ties). Granted, I have purchased some jewelry that’s gone over well. Like, say, her engagement and wedding ring. And recently when she got a well-deserved promotion at work, the antique pearl necklace went over well. …Okay, wait–was my point that I wasn’t good at picking out jewelry for Melissa? But the fact remains, in the 2 instances above, I had the advice of the incomparable Edie at Ken & Daughter Jewelers here in the ‘Berg. When it comes to these earrings, though they look nice, I’ll let Melissa enter herself if she chooses.

    1. Melissa has always had, and will always have, better taste than me.

If Melissa is ever in a coma in the hospital, she’ll still have better taste than me.

I’ll be plucking her chin-hairs while she’s on a ventilator, because I agreed to that as part of the Lifelong Girlfriend Pact, and she’ll still have better taste than me.

      I feel your pain.

  12. Beth, You are a riot…R-I-O-T! You should know that Kim, your sis-in-law is one of your biggest fans…she got me hooked on you! That, and your baby shower throwing skills kind of sealed the deal for me. Darn pork n beans! 😉

By the way…I’m not normally a dangly earring kind of gal, but I’m willing to try something new if I win. I’ll go with pair #2!! 🙂

    1. Heidi- I agreee she is a riot!! The baby shower got my gag reflex going, but it was funny!

      1. Thanks, ladies! For saying I’m a riot… but even more for putting up with the baby shower game.

And congrats, Heidi, on your win!

  13. That is seriously the longest post I think ever on a giveaway! I read the entire thing to see if there was something hidden in the post to give me a clue how to enter the giveaway . . . oh wait it was clear at the bottom! And I vote for earing set number 3.

P.S. I like the foot picture at the top of your blog. I’m thinking that might be how I can document my three boys (under age 5) growing up since they don’t seem to want to ever sit still long enough for all three of them to have a decent looking face (and by decent I mean not crying, poking, hitting, screaming, throwing something, wrestling, sucking a pacifier or finger, etc.) Oh, that would be an awesome contest . . . you should do a contest for the best professional (or non-professional pic) taken at a “family photo session”!

P.P.S. I guess this became the longest entry for a giveaway, but I am learning from the best on not being concise! (Yeah, I couldn’t do the tweet, twit, twat, whatever thing either!)

    1. Ha! I’d say sorry for making you read through the whole post for the entry info, but you know me. 🙂 And I love that you took up the Not Concise Baton and ran with it. Nice work!

Also, I love your PS idea. I can’t ever get a picture with all of my kids looking at the camera at the same time. Like, ever. My best is 80%.

  14. ooooh, I like the red…number 3.

  15. I read often but don’t always comment…I’ll be better about that. I love the “well played, dog” line, too (and laughed my head off about hooliganism and schenanigans yesterday.

Oh, and May 1 is Sunday. 😉

You write what’s in my head as I entertain the circus that is ny household. Keep up the great stuff!

    1. Thanks, Sinead!

No, really… I meant this as my opportunity to love on you, not to chastise for not commenting. (But I do love the comments, I admit it. It’s true.)

Wishing you and your circus every joy!

  16. I like #3. i think i would even wear them.
    which is saying a lot.

    1. #3 was my favorite, too. Love, love, love the color.

  17. Once again I love this blog. I love how you say whatever you think. It is like reading everything that I think but don’t say. Maybe I should just start saying what I think even if it is only to my husband.
It is also true that I do love when people like the heck out of me. In fact I like it so much sometimes I wish you lived in Memphis.
Also I wanted to add that I finally picked # 2 as my favorite but it was not fair of you to make me choose. I am the worlds worst decision maker. I guess I should be thanking you for making me make a choice.
Now I am done with the ramblings of a very pregnant lady that wishes her baby would just come. I hope I win the earrings they would help me feel cute again.
Now I really am done rambling.

    1. Here’s likin’ on you, Julieann! How’s baby-growing going? Just about another week to go? I feel like you and Kim are in a baby-off, although I’m the only one watching for which will come first. 😉

I laughed and laughed at “maybe I should just start saying what I think even if it is only to my husband.” DANGER! DANGER! I do that. It’s equal parts freeing and horrifying. I told Kim recently, blabbing my real thoughts is like I imagine it would be wearing a tube top to the grocery store… the bad parts ooze out all over, and everyone has to see them, but, oh!, the freedom!

  18. As I am a guy (yes, some of us read you too!), please do NOT send me any of these items. I wouldn’t know what to do with them.

But you wanted comments, so here you go, another comment. Love the site, and LOVE the fact that you’ve been on a major posting spree (almost every weekday, yay). Keep it up.

By the way, some of your readers might only see this site from work, so you should extend the giveaway one more day, so the weekday readers can comment.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion, Trighap! You can see I listened.

And thanks for being a guy who’s stickin’ in out with me and looking for the daily updates. You made my day!

  19. All three are amazingly cute! I popped over to her site and she makes such lovely things. I love pair #1! Thanks for such a neat giveaway!

p.s. You had me laughing at: “well played dog, well played.”

    1. Thanks, Kristen! And good job checking out LB Designs… I have to agree about her stuff, and I love that she has such range!

  20. Yup, #1! And I didn’t know that you loved comments. Watch out because from now on, comments are headed your way!!!

    1. Yeehaw! I do love comments, I confess. Although I MEANT to say that I wanted the chance to love on YOU ALL, you found me out. :S

  21. Beth, fun idea. I too am in the give away mode but not as clever with my methods as you. My stuff is going to the school sale, which is May 21st. Quick, easy, and boring. When in the give away mode I am not allowed to bring in new stuff ( My own rule, though my husband would like to think it is his.) So thanks for the earring offer but I will need to pass. Besides the ones I would have picked have been spoken for.

    1. I love your “not bring new stuff in” rule. If I could figure out how to apply that rule to my kids, even for one, day, I think I could sell it an make millions. Or at least have millions fewer things in my house. Genius.

  22. And I love the pictures of Ian and his dog. You can’t mess with true love!

    1. Thanks, Monica!

      And congratulations on your win!

  23. #1 is calling to me. Gold AND pink? Check. Check.

  24. Definitely # 2. They are very purty, plus they look like clip ons. Are they clip ons? Please, please, please be clip ons! Plus, I just wanted to type # 2 in a comment, gotta get a poo nugget reference in some how :P. Thanks for the chance to win!

    1. Bahahahahaha!

Andrea, bravo on the poo reference.
